Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed childhood behavioral disorder, affecting an estimated 3 to 5 percent of school-age children. It is characterized by persistent levels of inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity. Symptoms first appear before age seven and may persist into adulthood.

An estimated 50 percent of people with attention deficit disorder (ADHD) also have other behavioral, emotional or academic problems that exist alongside the disorder. Many times these other conditions or problems are not properly evaluated, and can complicate the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
